Shunichi Samejima
Shunichi Samejima was a research chemist in the field of fluorine chemistry who became involved in the environmental area by working on the development of alternatives to chlorofluorocarbons and participating in activities related to the Montreal Protocol. Samejima is currently the Head of Secretariat for the Asahi Glass Foundation, responsible for organizing its international environmental prize the “Blue Planet Prize.” The Asahi Glass Foundation was established in Tokyo, Japan in 1933 and since 1992, the year the Earth Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro, has sponsored the Blue Planet Prize, an award given in recognition of individuals and organizations that have made outstanding achievements contributing to the solution of all aspects of global environmental problems.
