Richard E. Rocheleau Ph. D.

Dr. Richard Rocheleau is the Director of the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute
at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  He has a BChe and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware and a M.S. in Ocean Engineering from the University of Hawaii.  He has over 25 years of experience in renewable energy primarily in the areas of photovoltaics, hydrogen technology, and fuel cells. Since becoming Director of HNEI, Dr. Rocheleau has worked to develop public private-partnerships for development, deployment and demonstration of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.  Accomplishments include formation of a partnership with the Office of Naval Research and industry to develop the Hawaii Fuel Cell Test Facility; implementation of the Hawaii Hydrogen Power Park, a partnership between USDOE, DBEDT, and local and national industries to deploy and demonstrate hydrogen/fuel cell technology; the Hawaii Hydrogen Center for Development and Deployment of Distributed Energy Systems which supports development of renewable and hydrogen technologies; and most recently the Hawaii Distributed Energy Resource Technologies for Energy Security program.
