Kenneth E. Pringle
Kenneth E. Pringle has served as the mayor of Belmar, NJ since 1990. Under Mayor Pringle’s leadership, Belmar has pursued numerous green initiatives, and was the first community in the continental U.S. to designate no-smoking areas on its beaches. Belmar was designated a Transit Village in 2003, and its award-winning plans for the sustainable redevelopment of its downtown have been recognized by the US Green Building Council, which has included the project in its LEED-Neighborhood Development pilot program. As a member of the Board of Directors of New Jersey Transit, the nation’s largest statewide mass transit agency, Mayor Pringle has pushed for the adoption of a wide-ranging sustainability plan for the agency, the installation of solar panels on its buildings and stations, station car partnerships with car-share companies, and a pilot project to convert its diesel trains to biofuel.
