Clyde Sakamoto, Ph.D.

 

Dr. Clyde Sakamoto received bachelor and master’s degrees from the University of Hawaii and doctorate from George Washington University in Washington, DC.  Appointed Dean of Students in 1973 and Dean of Instruction in 1980.   From 1984 to 1987, served as Director of the Office of International Services for American Association of Community Colleges in Washington DC, and a legislative aide in Senator Inouye’s office.   Presently serves on the Global Islands Network Board, the International Small Island Studies Association Executive Committee, Global Education Commission, Campus Technology Advisory Board, Maui Economic Development and Maui Arts and Culture Center Boards. Appointed as Provost of MCC in 1990 until 2001 when asked to develop the baccalaureate potential in UH Community Colleges.  He returned to MCC as Chancellor on July 1st in 2003, and currently leads a combined faculty, student, administration, and staff supporting sustainability efforts for UH-MCC and the Maui County community.
